Quit smoking for better mental health – study

“When you stop smoking and you break the nicotine withdrawal cycle, your mental health improves,” a study published recently by the British Medical Journal said. Researchers found that those who quit smoking reported less depression, anxiety and stress, and had a more positive outlook on life. They looked at the responses to questionnaires of volunteers who were 44 years old on average, and who smoked from 10-40 cigarettes a day. They were asked before they tried to quit smoking and again after their attempt to quit, about 6 months later. Researchers said they hoped their findings would dispel misconceptions about smoking.
