
The film “Metro Manila” failed to win in the 2014 British Academy Film Awards (Bafta) even as it was among those nominated in the “Film not in the English Language” category. Written and directed by British filmmaker Sean Ellis, the film is about a Filipino farmer who transports his family to the big city in hopes of finding a better life. Starring John Arcilla and Jake Macapagal, the film was a winner at the British Independent Film Festival. 12 Years a Slave, a story of a man sold into slavery, was the big winner at the Baftas on February 17, Monday, Manila time. British-born Steve McQueen directed the film.
