Watch that toothpaste. If it’s got fluoride, it could have an effect on a child’s brain development. Two public health experts from the Harvard School of Public Health and New York’s Icahn School of Medicine warned about the adverse effects of 6 chemicals first named in 2006 and 6 more identified in 2014. These include: ethanol, lead, methylmercury, polychlorinated biphenyls, arsenic, toluene, manganese, fluoride, chlorpyrifos, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, tetracholoroehtylene, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. They are used in pesticides, dry cleaning materials and flame retardants. Fluoride is commonly added in tap water and used to prevent cavities. Other experts however dismissed the findings as alarmist and highly speculative.
