Day 5 of Palarong Pambansa sees more teams eliminated


As Palarong Pambansa advanced to Day 5, a chosen few advanced to the semis of various sporting events. As of 8 pm, Wednesday, May 9, the National Capital Region (NCR) entered the semifinals in basketball, along with Calabarzon, Zamboanga and Western Visayas in the elementary category. In the secondary category, NCR’s Axel Ngui got his 5th gold medal in the 100m butterfly event, even as a new record was set in the 200m freestyle team relay event. The 2008 record of 1:57.05 was shattered by Catherine Bondad, Anna Bartolome, Thea Caluma and Paula Kayanan who clocked 1:55.26. In the athletics sport, Maureen Emily Schrijvers of NCR made history by breaking the high jump mark after scaling 1.62 meters.
