'It has never been discussed. No truth,' says the presidential sister. She indicates instead that she's considering running for a post in 2019.

MANILA, Philippines – Count on the controversial presidential sister to immediately address rumors as soon as they surface. She denied reports that she is mulling to run in 2016 as the running mate of presidential hopeful Manuel Roxas II.

“It has never been discussed. No truth. Huwag sila gumawa ng intriga kasi hindi talaga totoo (They should not stir intrigues because it’s not really true),” Kris Aquino declared in her program Aquino & Abunda Tonight on Tuesday night, March 4, aired on ABS-CBN.

“No plans. It has not been discussed. It’s not on the table,” she added.

Co-host Boy Abunda teased her it’s not being discussed yet, suggesting that she may still be a contender. Aquino laughed. “Oh my God. Hindi pa sila handa. Hindi pa handa ang Pilipinas! (They are not ready. The Philippines is not ready)”

But Kris being Kris, the story doesn’t end there. She has always been vocal about her plans to eventually join politics.

“I believe naman nasa dugo pero at this point in my life, siguro categorically kaya ko magsalita ng patapos. 2016 is not yet my time,” she declared. (I believe it is in my blood but at this point in my life, I can categorically say I the issue is closed.)

“Let’s talk about 2019,” she added and then laughed again. 2019 will be another midterm election.

Abunda, also her manager, spoke of her outstanding contracts in the entertainment industry.

Aquino also said she wants to follow in the footsteps of her brother President Benigno Aquino III, whom she calls Noy.

“In 2016, I will do what Noy did. He waited. Mom stepped down in 1992. He did not seek election until, if I’m not mistaken, 1998, bago siya nag-Kongreso (before he joined Congress). So sundan ko na lang ang yapak niya (So I will just follow his footsteps),” she said.

If that also means her political ambitions go as high as Malacañang, it wasn’t clear.

It was only last year that Kris Aquino dropped hints that she’s eyeing a national position in the 2016 elections. She teased then Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for not supporting her brother in 2010. She told Duterte to make sure he will carry her in 2016. (READ: Kris Aquino: ‘Sa 2016 dapat manalo ako’)

In the entertainment industry, Kris is known for changing her mind. In politics so far, she has shown to be more prudent. Count on this daughter of heroes to know that it’s a different playground. – Carmela Fonbuena/Rappler.com
