Fire breaks out in Gilmore, QC residential area

MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – A fire broke out in a slum area near Gilmore Avenue in Quezon City late Saturday evening, April 5.

The exact location of the fire was at #62, Santolan Road, Barangay Valencia.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Francisco Mabunga of the Quezon City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire was put under control at 12:35 am, Sunday, April 6. He added that the cause of the fire has yet to be established.

As of 1:19 am, investigation was still ongoing. As of this writing, Major Alma Abacahin, chief investigator, was still on the site of the fire.

In a tweet, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the fire had been elevated to Task Force Alpha, meaning other neighboring fire districts were required to help put it out. 

Firefighter and EMT volunteer Bryan Paolo Dalanon first tweeted about the fire alert, seeking assistance.

Edward Lim, who was in the area of the fire, overheard fire victims lament the loss of their property. He, however, said the mood was relatively calm.

Netizen Veronica Valbuena took a distant shot of the area on fire.
