President Benigno Aquino III received Chinese ambassador to the Philippines Zhao Jianhua on Tuesday, April 8, and had a 15-minute “very cordial” meeting with him, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said. Zhao was among 6 ambassadors-designate who presented their credentials. Valte said Aquino thanked Zhai for his country’s support during Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) and extended an invitation to Chinese leaders to attend the World Economic Forum that the Philippines is hosting in May. Both sides agreed that the maritime dispute in the West Philippine Sea is “not the totality of our relationship with our neighbor,” Valte said.
