Murdoch executive charged in hacking case

Rebeka Brooks, former editor of The News of the World tabloid and former head of Rupert Murdoch’s British newspaper empire, was formally charged Tuesday, May 15. This was in relation to a phone hacking controversy. Brooks, along with her husband and 4 others, were accused to subverting justice by trying to hide or destroy files and equipment that would have provided more information about phone hacking practices at the tabloid. Investigations began last summer when it was discovered that journalists intercepted messages in the cellphone of 13-year-old Milly Dowler after she was abducted and before her body was found.
