LTFRB suspends bus firms in Batangas, Zamboanga accidents
The suspension of several units of JAM Liner, Del Monte Motor Works, and Rural Transit Mindanao will be good for 30 days

MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced the issuance of preventive suspension orders on 3 bus firms over recent bus accidents in Batangas and Zamboanga del Sur.

The suspension orders are good for 30 days, said LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez.

Ten buses of JAM Liner Incorporated and one bus of Del Monte Motor Works Incorporated (DLTB) were suspended pending the investigation of a road mishap which left one person dead on May 4. The driver of the JAM Liner bus, according to a police report, was trying to outrace the DLTB bus when he lost control of the vehicle.

Meanwhile 15 units of Rural Transit Mindanao Incorporated were suspended following an April 27 crash that left 6 people dead and 16 others injured.

“We have been reminding bus operators and their drivers to refrain from driving recklessly to prevent fatal road accidents; the board will never tolerate reckless driving behavior,” said Ginez.

The plates of the grounded buses will be confiscated on Monday, May 12, Ginez said. In 30 days, the companies have to bring the units to the Land Transportation Office’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Service for a road worthiness check.

Company drivers will also be required to take a road safety seminar.

The case will be heard by the LTFRB on May 21. – Rappler.com
