Magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocks Visayas
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – A magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocked the western side of Hinoba-an, a first class municipality in Negros Occidental, on Thursday, May 15.
The earthquake was felt in other parts of Negros, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique and Cebu. The earthquake occurred at 6:16 pm, according to the Philippine Institute for Volcanology (Phivolcs).
The quake's epicenter was in the middle of the sea at a depth of 10 kilometers, said Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum in an interview on radio dzBB.
No casualties or damage have been reported so far but aftershocks may still be felt.
Despite the epicenter's location, Solidum said the earthquake is not expected to lead to a tsunami or other water movements.
The earthquake was also felt in the following areas:
- Intensity V - Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental
- Intensity IV - Iloilo City; Bago City; Bacolod City; Pandan, Antique; Basay, Negros Occidental; Sipalay, Negros Occidental
