Trinidad is new Nolcom commander
Maj Gen Felicito Trinidad Jr replaces Lt Gen Gregorio Catapang, who is now vice chief of staff of the AFP

MANILA, Philippines – Major General Felicito Virgilio “Chito” Trinidad Jr has been appointed new commanding general of the military’s Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) based in Tarlac, sources told Rappler Friday, June 6.

A 1982 graduate of the Philippine Military Academy, Trinidad is currently the commander of the 1st infantry division of the Philippine Army based in Zamboanga del Sur.

He will formally assume command of Nolcom on Monday, June 9. He replaces Lt Gen Gregorio Catapang Jr, who has been named vice chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Trinidad was a former aide of retired general and former Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita. As a young lieutenant, he joined the anti-Marcos forces in the military during the 1986 EDSA revolt that catapulted Corazon Aquino to power.

The military will go through a major revamp in July when its chief of staff, General Emmanuel Bautista, retires. The major contenders for the post are Air Force chief Lt Gen Jeffrey Delgado, Army chief Lt Gen Hernando Iriberri, and Catapang.  – Rappler.com
