P1.3-M bounty for killer of businessman in Davao
(UPDATED) Davao authorities also release a composite sketch of the alleged gunman who shot dead businessman Richard King

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Davao City police further increased the reward money for the arrest of those behind the murder of a rich hotelier in the city, raising the bounty to P1.3 million on Tuesday, June 17.

Davao police authorities also released a composite sketch of the alleged gunman who shot dead businessman Richard King, the 56-year-old owner of the Crown Regency Group of Hotels and health products company Vital-C, on June 12.

Davao police made the announcement a few hours after Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte increased the reward money to P500,000 from P200,000 – the original amount raised by the family of the victim,

To clarify rumors that the incident might be connected to vigilante killings targeting drug pushers in the city, Duterte said King’s murder is not drug-related.

The police would not deprive the public of such information and would openly confirm it if the rumors were true, the mayor said.

King was shot in the head while meeting with his distributors inside Vital-C’s building in Obrero on Thursday, June 12.

Unlike other cases of killings in the city where gunmen wore motorcycle helmets to hide their identity, King’s killer was not wearing any, the police said.

Police forces are following several leads in the investigation including the victim’s business ventures across the country.

Investigators have expressed optimism that they would capture the suspects, the police said.

King was the chair of Vital-C Health Products, Inc and Vital-C Land Development Corp, the chief executive officer of J. King and Sons, the president of Fuente Triangle Realty Development Corp and the founder and director of Boracay Multiple Properties Developers Inc – Rappler.com
