Global temperature in May hits record-high

The combined average temperature in May across the globe was 1.33°F or 0.74°C higher than the 20th century average. The month’s 59.93°F sizzling temperature set a new record for the planet, making it the warmest May over land and water since 1880. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said record heat was recorded in eastern Kazakhstan, parts of Indonesia, and central and northwestern Australia. Over the past 39 years, the month of May has been hotter than the 20th century average.
