US’ ‘most wanted’ among 5 fugitives nabbed in PH
Convicted for manslaughter in the US, 32-year-old Elbert Kyung Ma is caught after months of surveillance by intelligence operatives from the immigration bureau
MANILA, Philippines – Five American fugitives were nabbed in the Philippines in the month of June, including a 32-year-old found guilty of fatally stabbing an acquaintance in the heat of the moment.
In a statement Tuesday, June 24, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Elbert Kyung Ma was arrested in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City by the bureau’s intelligence operatives.
Ma was convicted of manslaughter and is described as one of “America’s Most Wanted,” the BI said. Ma was found to have killed a 22-year-old over an unpaid debt and has been on the run since July 2011.
It appears Ma immediately flew to the Philippines as travel records show he arrived in the country in July 2011 on a tourist visa.
However, the United States (US) embassy said Ma’s US passport was revoked, adding that the fugitive poses safety risks to the public. A one-page poster issued by the US diplomatic security service in Manila also tags Ma as “Most Wanted.”
Various identification cards, including a professional driver’s license and company ID as regional manager of Manpower Phil Inc in Makati, were confiscated during Ma’s arrest.
BI Commissioner Siegfried Mison said Ma is also wanted for violating the conditions of his parole in connection with charges of homicide, illegal possession of firearm, fraud and driving under the influence of liquor.
Ma is now blacklisted and set to be deported back to the US.
The other 4 US fugitives arrested in June and now in government custody are: Jeffrey Louis Ochs alias Jeffrey Stoke, 54; Charlie Alog, 62; Michael Robert Cronin, 31; and Danielle Nopuente alias Danielle Parker, 49.
Wanted for identity fraud, Ochs was arrested on June 20 in Dasmariñas, Cavite, by joint teams from BI and the US embassy. He is now detained at the BI detention facility in Taguig City and is set to be deported.
Alog, wanted for rape and sexual assault, was arrested on June 19 in his hideout in Umingan, Pangasinan. He was deported on June 20.
Cronin, wanted for burglary, was apprehended in Dasmariñas, Cavite City after two weeks of surveillance. He is set to be deported, as well.
Nopuente, on the other hand, was caught by operatives in Tagaytay City last June 4. She is wanted for multiple counts of theft and fraud.
The BI said Nopuente was reported to be a bigtime businesswoman and resident of a plush subdivision in Alabang, Muntinlupa. – Rappler.com
