MANILA, Philippines – Former University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman chancellor Ernesto Tabujara died on June 20 at the age of 85.
He passed away Friday morning at the Philippine Heart Center due to heart failure caused by multiple organ failure, an article posted on the UP website reported.
Tabujara served as chancellor for 7 years from 1983 to 1990. He led the separation of UP Diliman’s College of Arts and Sciences into the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Science, and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
He also led the establishment of programs at UP Clark and San Fernando, UP Baguio, UP Visayas, and UP Mindanao.
A PhD-holder in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Tabujara designed landmarks in Metro Manila such as the Philippine International Convention Center and the Batasang Pambansa Complex.
Tabujara’s wake is at St Peter’s Memorial Chapel along Commonwealth Avenue. His remains will be buried around 10 am Wednesday, June 25, at Marikina’s Loyola Memorial Park. – Rappler.com
