‘Ambo’ now tropical storm; Signal No 1 in 6 areas

Expect a wet weekend in Bicol, Aurora and Isabela

MANILA, Philippines – The weather bureau has placed areas in Bicol, Aurora and Isabela under storm signal no. 1 as Ambo intensified into a tropical storm afternoon of Friday, June 1.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said those under storm signal no 1 are Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Polilio Island, Aurora, and Isabela.

PAGASA expects Ambo (international code name Mawar) to move towards Okinawa, Japan Monday, June 4.

The weather bureau’s 4 p.m. advisory said Ambo was estimated at 190 km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum winds of 65 kph. “Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under signal no. 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides,” PAGASA said.

Ambo is forecast to move north northeast at 15 kph and will be 220 km east southeast of Aparri, Cagayan, Saturday afternoon, June 2.

By Sunday afternoon, June 3, Ambo is expected to be 280 km east northeast of Basco, Batanes, PAGASA said. – Rappler.com
