Duterte offers P1M bounty for killers of race car driver
The Davao City mayor says he's a friend of slain race car driver Enzo Pastor

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte raised a P1-million bounty (about $24,000) for any information that would lead to the capture of the killers of race car driver Ferdinand “Enzo” Pastor.

“I am also in grief because he is my friend,” Duterte said Wednesday evening, July 23. He added he is close to the Pastor family.

The 32-year-old Pastor was shot dead by unknown assailants last June 12 in Quezon City while on his way to the Clark International Speedway.

Witnesses saw two gunmen on a motorbike approach a tow track that the Euro NASCAR racer was using to transport an Asian V8 car at a stoplight on the corner of Congressional and Visayas avenues in Quezon City. Pastor was attacked after he alighted the vehicle.

“Death overtook him. Man dies but it is unacceptable that he was shot like a dog,” Duterte said. Duterte said Pastor had a promising career and was the country’s pride.

He explained that the money was derived from the P5 million funds donated by “well-meaning citizens and businessmen” for the capture of a syndicate leader in the city.

The mayor gave assurances that identities of informants would be kept secret.

In June, President Benigno Aquino III said the police have “good leads” in the probe into Pastor’s death. But he did not elaborate. – Rappler.com
