MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a traffic advisory in view of expected heavy traffic due to the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) centennial celebration from July 26 to 28.
The advisory was released by the Presidential Communications Office (PCOO) on Thursday, July 25.
The LTFRB said trucks-for-hire should avoid the following roads and exits:
- North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) from the Balintawak Tollgate-Angeles City exit and vice versa
- McArthur Highway
- Cagayan Valley Road from the Sta. Rita exit
- All provincial roads in Bulacan used as parking areas for INC buses and utility vehicles
The designated parking areas are the Sta Maria bypass, a portion of the Mindanao Avenue Extension, and the Balagtas bypass along MacArthur Highway from Monumento to Calumpit, Bulacan.
The LTFRB offered the following suggestions to motorists:
- Use inner roads or secondary roads in Malolos, Calumpit, Bocaue, Meycauayan, Marilao, Sta Maria, Norzagaray, and Valenzuela City
- Instead of the Sta Maria Bypass, traverse the Sta Maria-San Jose Old Road and the Sta Maria Tungkong Manga Road
- To avoid the Doña Trinidad Highway, use the Old Cagayan Valley Road and the Malolos-Plaridel Road
- To avoid MacArthur Highway, use the Landicho-Sandico Road in Marilao going to Saluysoy Road-Hulo Banga Road in Meycauayan, Bulacan
The LTFRB said Metro Manila-bound trucks with perishable goods and food items are exempted and would be allowed to use the affected roads.
The Board said it expects heavy traffic before and after the Iglesia ni Cristo’s celebration at the Philippine Arena on Sunday, July 27.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino, who heads Task Force Sentenaryo, earlier said that INC members are expected to arrive in Bulacan by Saturday, July 26, on eve of the event. (READ: Expect heavy traffic around Bulacan on Iglesia centennial)
At least 10,000 buses, 2,400 vans and Asian Utility Vehicles (AUVs), and other private vehicles are expected to make their way to Bulacan for the centennial celebration.
Task Force Sentaryo is the high-level task force created by President Benigno Aquino III for the INC centennial, which has among its members Cabinet officials and the military and police chiefs.
