Panel says it will try to prove that Corona is 'unfit' for the position

MANILA, Philippines – The House prosecution panel filed on Monday afternoon its reply to Chief Justice Renato Corona’s comment on the impeachment complaint. It rejected Corona’s plea to dismiss the complaint by questioning his accountability and morality to occupy the position.

“The heart and soul of the reply is that all public officials in all three branches of government are accountable for their actions. CJ Corona is not exempted from this provision of the Constitution. We are confident that the evidence we will present during the impeachment trial is enough evidence to convict CJ Corona and him him removed from the SC,” said impeachment spokesperson Quezon Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada.

“We will prove that he is morally unfit to hold the position of Associate Justice of the SC much more Chief Justice of the SC,” he added.

In his comment to the impeachment complaint, Corona asked the Senate impeachment court to dismiss the complaint for supposedly failing to meet requirements of the Constitution.

The House prosecution panel’s reply will also question Corona’s defense that High Court decisions are collegial.– Rappler.com
