MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday night, June 5, certified as urgent the Anti-Terrorist Financing Bill, Malacañang said.

Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda that the President, who is in London for an official trip, made the decision after Budget Secretary Florencio Abad apprised him of the status of the priority measure.

“Budget Secretary Butch Abad communicated with the President today and apprised him of the status of the Anti-Terrorism Financing Bill, and its urgency to be certified. In response, the President will certify it as urgent tonight by way of electronic signature,” Lacierda said.

Senate Bill 3127 or the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act criminalizes terrorist financing as an offense separate from the crime of terrorism. It penalizes any person who deals with properties or funds owned or controlled by terrorist organizations.

It’s one of 3 pending Senate bills aimed at amending the Anti-Money Laundering Act. – Rappler.com
