MANILA, Philippines – A Metro Trail Transit 3 (MRT-3) train on Friday, August 15, encountered a “power supply” problem at around 3:34 pm, causing the train to stall near the EDSA-Santolan station. 

In an interview with Rappler, MRT-3 spokesman Hernan Cabrera said full operations resumed at around 3:56 pm. 

The stalling of the train comes two days after another MRT-3 train overshot a barrier at the Taft avenue station, injuring passengers and damaging the metal railings around the station. (READ: MRT-3 derailed, injuries reported)

Cabrera assured commuters there was nothing to worry about, since the Friday stalling of another train had nothing to do with the earlier incident. It means, however, that two of the MRT-3’s trains are out of service. 

Each train can service around 1,000 passengers, said Cabrera. As of posting, Cabrera said the MRT-3 management had yet to determine what caused the power supply problem. 

Cabrera said the stalled train would hopefully be back in service by Friday evening. – Rappler.com
