MANILA, Philippines – A Filipino cop recently completed the Full Distance Ironman, known as the toughest and longest international triathlon event in the world.

Police Chief Inspector Fernando L. Cunanan Jr completed the 2014 triathlon at Memorial Hermann, Texas, which consists of a 2.4-mile (3.8-km) swim, before changing into a wet suit for the 112-mile (180-km) bike race, followed by a full marathon (26.2 miles or 42km).

Cunanan was among 2,781 triathletes from 40 countries to participate at the event.

“This kind of achievement proves that policemen are truly tough and healthy,” said Police Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, public information chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Cunanan, a member of the PNP Crime Investigation and Detection Group, first competed at the Cobra Ironman in Camarines Sur in 2009. That race, also known as Ironman 70.3, is half the full triathlon distance.

He was the first PNP officer to finish a Half Ironman. Cunanan has since been competing in other Ironman 70.3 races, ultra marathons, and other triathlons. Rappler.com
