‘Expanded’ Parañaque truck ban starts August 25
Trucks will no longer be allowed to ply through Parañaque’s major streets beginning August 25. Exempted are 6-wheeler logistics and cargo trucks

MANILA, Philippines – Trucks will no longer be allowed to ply through Parañaque’s major streets beginning Monday, August 25, the local city government announced.

In a statement on on Tuesday, August 19, Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said once the “expanded truck ban” kicks in, trucks will not be allowed to pass through the following roads:

  • Dr. A. Santos Avenue (Sucat Road)
  • East and West Service Roads of the South Luzon Expressway
  • Ninoy Aquino Avenue
  • Airport Road
  • Quirino Avenue

The ban will be in effect from 6 am to 9 am, and again from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Olivarez said the expanded truck ban would ease the effects of the planned closure of the Sucat Interchange on traffic in the area.

Covered by the ban are 10-wheeler cargo trucks, trailer trucks, transit mixers, and those hauling sand and aggregates and other heavy payloads, according to the local government.

Exempted from the ban are 6-wheeler trucks “to allow logistics and cargo forwarding companies to move their cargoes to and from the airports and their warehouses anytime,” the city said in the statement.

The “expansion” of the truck ban adds on a previous city ordinance that regulated trucks inside the city. Olivarez said the ordinance was passed years ago but was “only being implemented on secondary roads.”

Aside from being banned from major streets, trucks passing through major roads can only use center lanes to avoid causing heavy traffic for other vehicles, Olivarez said. The “center lane” for trucks will be implemented 7 days a week. – Bea Cupin/Rappler.com
