MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reset the voters’ registration for the February 2015 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK or youth polls) in some areas affected by tropical storm Mario (Fung-Wong) and monsoon rains.
In a press release, the poll body, through Minute Resolution No. 14-0675, reset the SK registration period in the following areas:
- Cainta, Rizal – September 21 (Sunday) to September 30 (Tuesday)
- Obando, Bulacan – September 23 (Tuesday) to October 2 (Thursday)
- Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur – September 27 (Saturday) to October 6 (Monday)
The Comelec heeded the recommendation of its Election and Barangay Affairs Department (EBAD) to reset the registration period in these areas following the onslaught of Mario.
Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur were on the path of Mario as it made its way out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Meanwhile, Obando and Cainta were not covered by any public storm warning signals, but still experienced floods due to heavy rainfall.
Cainta was even among the areas placed under a state of calamity.
Earlier, the National Youth Commission (NYC) asked the Comelec to extend for one week the SK registration in Mario-affected areas.
Voters’ registration for the upcoming SK elections for 15-17-year-old Filipinos is ongoing for the rest of the country until Monday, September 29.
Eligible applicants may take advantage of SK registration forms uploaded online, through the Comelec’s website. – Rappler.com
