MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday, October 24, announced it is gearing up for the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day by deploying “extensive coverage” before and after the “Undas” weekend.
PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima said he has instructed all regional directors, provincial regional offices, and the Highway Patrol Group to appoint road and route safety marshals in major roads and strategic areas such as cemeteries, churches, and transport terminals.
“The entire PNP will be placed on full alert to provide maximum coverage and public safety services. Also, our intelligence, counter-intelligence and police operations will be intensified to preempt terrorist activities,” Purisima said in a statement.
Filipino families typically travel from the cities to the provinces during the Undas weekend to observe the long-held national tradition.
The PNP said “assistance hubs” and “alert quick response team” will also be assigned along major highways, cemeteries, malls, and transport terminals to help the public.
The groups will be deployed in coordination with local government units, non-governmental organizations, concerned government agencies, and force multipliers. – Rappler.com
