MANILA, Philippines – The state weather bureau PAGASA has upgraded the active low pressure area east of the country to a tropical depression, and is moving closer to the eastern seaboard of Luzon.

Tropical Depression “Dindo” was last spotted 670 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour. It is currently moving west northwest at 19 kph, the bureau said in its 5 pm bulletin on Tuesday, June 26.

Around 10-15 mm of rain per hour is expected within the 400 km diameter of the tropical depression, but it is still far from land to bring the rains.

No public storm warning signals have been raised by the PAGASA so far. However, fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out to sea in Eastern Luzon and Visayas due to the rough seas brought by Dindo.

It is forecast to be 520 km east of Casiguran, Aurora by Wednesday afternoon, and 320 km east of Aparri, Cagayan by Thursday afternoon. By Friday, it will be 80 km north northeast of Basco, Batanes.

Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao can expect rain brought by the southwest monsoon, becoming frequent over the western sections.

Southern Luzon will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms which could trigger flashfloods and landslides, PAGASA warned.

The next bulletin on Dindo will be issued at 11 pm. – Rappler.com
