MANILA, Philippines – On Monday, December 1, President Benigno Aquino III will lead the ceremony to kick off the country’s hosting of the 2015 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

This was confirmed by Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte in a press briefing with state-run Radyo ng Bayan on Saturday, November 29.

That is hosted by our friends over at DTI [Department of Trade and Industry], and will happen, if I’m not mistaken, I think, around 5 in the afternoon,” said Valte.

The theme and hosting logo of the APEC Summit on November 15-17, 2015 will be unveiled at Monday’s ceremony, she added. (READ: 2015 APEC Summit to keep PH ‘top of mind’)

The APEC Summit will bring together 21 world leaders in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss a wide range of issues with the aim of boosting political and economic ties.

Meanwhile, on December 8 and 9, representatives of APEC member-economies will meet at the Oriental Hotel in Legazpi City, Albay, to participate in the Informal Senior Officials’ Meeting (ISOM).

“The ISOM will serve as the venue for agenda-setting of priorities of the 21 APEC member-economies for our hosting year. Notable speakers will also arrive to discuss how the economies can move forward on the topics that are to be discussed at the ISOM,” Valte said.

The local governments of Albay and Legazpi City, and the regional offices of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the Department of Tourism (DOT), among others, are helping the national government in preparing for the ISOM, said Valte.

“Everyone is really cooperating to make the start of the hosting a success,” she said. – Rappler.com
