MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – More areas in northern Luzon are now under public storm warning signals as tropical storm Dindo (international codename Doksuri) intensifies and moves towards the area, weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday, June 27.

In its 11 am bulletin, PAGASA said Dindo was last located 380 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 490 km east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum winds of 75 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

It is moving towards the west-northwest at a speed of 19 kph, and is expected to be 330 km northeast of Casiguran, Aurora on Thursday morning.

The provinces of Cagayan and Isabela are now under public storm warning signal number 2.

Meanwhile, signal number 1 is up over the following areas:

  • Batanes
  • Calayan Island
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Apayao
  • Abra
  • Kalinga
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Mountain Province
  • Aurora
  • Ifugao
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Quirino

The estimated amount of rainfall is around 15-25 millimeters per hour within the 400 km diameter of the weather disturbance, considered heavy to intense rainfall.

Dindo is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The bureau warns against flashfloods and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm warning signals, while small seacraft are advised not to venture out to sea in the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas due to rough seas.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, the bureau said.

Prevailing winds will come mainly from the southwest, it added.

The next bulletin for Dindo will be at 5 pm. – Rappler.com
