MANILA, Philippines – Tropical storm Dindo (international codename Doksuri) has maintained it strength as it moves towards northern Luzon, weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday, June 27.
In its 5 pm bulletin, PAGASA said Dindo was last located 430 kilometers east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, with maximum winds of 75 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
It is moving towards the west-northwest at a speed of 19 kph, and is expected to be 190 km east northeast of Tuguegarao, Cagayan by Thursday afternoon.
The number of provinces under public storm warning signal number 2 has risen to 6:
- Cagayan (Including the Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands)
- Isabela
- Batanes
- Apayao
- Kalinga
- Mountain Province
Meanwhile, signal number 1 is up over the following areas:
- Calayan Island
- Ilocos Norte
- Abra
- Ilocos Sur
- Aurora
- Ifugao
- Nueva Vizcaya
- Quirino
The estimated amount of rainfall is around 15-25 millimeters per hour within the 400 km diameter of the weather disturbance, considered heavy to intense rainfall.
Dindo is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The bureau warns against flashfloods and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm warning signals, while small seacraft are advised not to venture out to sea in the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas due to very rough seas.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, the bureau said.
Prevailing winds will come mainly from the southwest, it added.
The storm is expected to pass by near Batanes by Thursday or Friday, and will be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
