'VIP treatment' for drug lords discovered in surprise Bilibid inspection
MANILA, Philippines – The New Bilibid Prison got a surprise visit from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday morning, December 15.
Led by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, the inspection was in response to reports that many convicted drug lords were receiving "VIP treatment" and continuing illegal drug operations inside the national penitentiary. (READ: 'Heads must roll' over drug dealer's Bilibid house – DOJ)
A DZMM report said that amenities not usually afforded prisoners – like an air-conditioning system, an entertainment set, even a jacuzzi and an undisclosed amount of money – were found in the room of one drug lord.
Drugs and drug paraphernalia were also reportedly discovered there.
In these changing times, courage and clarity become even more important.
