MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Eastern Samar early Sunday, December 21, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake, which struck the area at 8:25 am, was centered 79 km northeast of Hernani, Eastern Samar.
The focus was at a depth of 10 km. The quake was of tectonic origin.
Intensity I was felt in Tacloban City and Catbalogan City, Phivolcs said.
No damage is expected from the quake, but Phivolcs added that there may be aftershocks. – Rappler.com
