Aside from him, two other lawyers join the impeached Chief Justice's defense team
MANILA, Philippines – The general counsel of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines is a member of the defense team of impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Ramon S. Esguerra, one of Corona’s three new defense counsels, also served as lawyer for the camp of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and former Pagcor chair Ephraim Genuino.

The other two lawyers who are now part of Corona’s defense team are Tranquil Salvador III, who finished his BA degree at the University of Santo Tomas where he was a student leader but took up law in Ateneo, and Karen Jimeno, a UP law graduate who got her masters degree in Harvard and is newly wed.

Two of the original defense counsels of Corona had quit the panel – retired Court of Appeals Justice Hector Hofileña and lawyer Ernesto Francisco.

The IBP has come out in favor of Corona, insisting that the rule of law must prevail and that the judiciary should be spared attacks from the executive branch of government.

But other lawyers who are members of the IBP have questioned this stand of the lawyers’ group, saying it hinted of bias in favor of the Chief Justice.

The Philippine Bar Association, for example, considers the impeachment as a “constitutionally ordained process which epitomizes the Rule of Law at work.” – Rappler.com
