The speech to be delivered by President Benigno Aquino III in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) this year has reached four revisions and 30 pages

MANILA, Philippines – The speech that President Benigno Aquino III will deliver in his 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) has gone through its 4th revision.

Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a radio interview on Sunday, July 8, that the 4th draft of the SONA was already submitted to Aquino, and that it has already reached more than 30 pages.

Despite the number of revisions and pages of the SONA speech, Valte said that it is still a “constant work in progress.”

“Just to give you an idea, the President wants to see a constant evolution. Especially when he sees something in his daily work that he feels that should be included, he will insert it. So constantly the form of the draft will be changed,” she said.

“There’s a lot of reordering that is ongoing but the entire team is closely working with the President on what he wants the final SONA draft to be,” Valte added.

President Aquino’s first SONA speech after he assumed office in 2010 went through a reported 16 drafts, while the second SONA in 2011 was reportedly revised 13 times.

Valte added that the public will see “a lot changes in the way that the President does his SONA” this year. She has earlier revealed that Aquino will likely use visual aids to complement his speech.

The visuals, however, will be determined once the speech is finalized.
