Revilla asks court: Allow me to visit my son

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr on Monday, March 2, filed an urgent motion seeking the permission of the anti-graft court to allow him to visit his son, Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla, at the hospital. 

Revilla wants to visit his son at the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa City for at least 3 hours “as soon as possible.”

In a 2-page motion, Revilla’s lawyers said the senator “feels helpless and distraught about the serious threat to the life of his son” and is “anxious to know” the status of his condition.

The younger Revilla was rushed to the Asian Hospital on Saturday evening, February 28, after suffering a gunshot wound on his upper right chest. In an earlier statement, the Revilla family said the incident was an accident. 

“More importantly, Senator Revilla – as any father would feel – bears that it is his obligation to visit his son to ensure that he is already safe and in a stable medical condition, and to spend a few moments with him to provide support and assurance in this life-threatening situation,” the motion said. 

The Sandiganbayan First Division asked the prosecution to submit a response within the day. Revilla’s legal counsel, meanwhile, was required to submit a medical report on the younger Revilla’s condition. 

The Philippine National Police said it is investigating what happened. 

Revilla is presently detained at Camp Crame for graft and plunder charges in connection with the multi-billion-peso pork barrel scam. Fellow Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile, as well as former Representative Edgard Valdez and incumbent Masbate Governor Rizalina Seachon-Lanete are also in detention while their cases are being heard. – Rappler.com
