Jolo Revilla on leave; Rudy Lara is acting Cavite vice gov
Jolo 'is expected to report back to work barring any further complications from his injuries' from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, says the family spokesman
MANILA, Philippines – Cavite’s top board member Teofilo Rudy Lara will be acting vice governor for a month as Jolo Revilla goes on a month-long leave to recuperate from a gunshot wound.
“Board member Rudy Lara of Dasmariñas is the senior board member. He will be acting in the vice governor’s place,” Cavite Governor Juanito Victor Remulla told Rappler on Tuesday, March 10.
Rules provide that the board member who got the highest votes in the elections become acting vice governor when the latter goes on leave, is suspended, or is unable to dispense his duties. (In cities and towns, the same rule applies to top councilors when vice mayors goes on leave.)
On Monday, Revilla family lawyer Raymond Fortun said the vice governor will be on leave for a month to recover from the gunshot wound he inflicted on himself last February 28.
“He has asked for a 30-day leave from the Province of Cavite, after which, he is expected to report back to work barring any further complications from his injuries,” Fortun said.
He added that the vice governor will remain under the care of his mother, Cavite Representative Lani Mercado Revilla, after being discharged from the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City on Sunday.
“Vice Governor Jolo Revilla is currently under the care of his mom Congresswoman Lani Mercado. The family decided to discharge him from the hospital to speed up his recovery, with the consent of his doctors,” Fortun said.
The vice governor had been confined to the hospital for over a week after sustaining a gunshot wound on his upper right chest.
The family has maintained that the shooting was accidental, saying Revilla accidentally fired the handgun he was cleaning at the time.

Meanwhile, Fortun said the family is grateful to the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan for allowing the vice governor’s father, detained Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr, to visit at the hospital last March 3. (READ: Jolo Revilla to Bong: ‘I’m sorry, Papa’)

“The family is grateful to the Sandiganbayan for allowing Senator Bong Revilla to visit Jolo. That visit lifted up Jolo’s spirits, which led to a marked improvement in his disposition that very night,” he said.

Fortun added, “The family also thanks all those who visited Jolo at the hospital. They ask for further prayers for Jolo’s swift recovery and peace of mind.”
