Stay away, China!

The Philippines warned China to stay clear of the disputed Spratly’s area after a Chinese vessel got stuck in a shoal located within the Philippine’s 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ). “We require China to respect the sovereign rights of the Philippines,” stressed Foreign Department spokesman Raul Hernandez, adding that the Philippines will file a protest if the Chinese vessels that came to rescue the stranded vessel remain within the EEZ. He cited reports that the fleet of 30 fishing vessels from Hainan had arrived at a point near the Yongshu Reef in the Spratlys, parts of which are claimed by the Philippines, China, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam.
