Richest athletes earn more from product endorsements than playing sports

Of the highest earning American athletes listed in Sports Illustrated’s annual “Fortune 50,” nine make more from endorsing products than actually playing their sports. For example, Tiger Woods is considered “96% spokesman, 4% athlete” for earned an estimated US$1.94 million as an golf player and $54.5 million as a product endorser. The other 8 players joining Woods are: Phil Mickelson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, LeBron James, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart and Kobe Bryant.
