30 injured in EDSA bus accident
MANILA, Philippines – At least 30 passengers were injured after a bus slammed into the concrete beam of the EDSA-Santolan flyover Tuesday evening, March 31.
The accident occurred at around 9 pm along the northbound lane of EDSA-Santolan, forcing the temporary closure of the lane to vehicular traffic.
The impact damaged the windshield of the Worthy bus bound for Fairview in Quezon City.
The injured passengers were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.
According to radio DZMM, the 26-year-old bus driver said he was forced to swerve to avoid another vehicle that was trying to cut into the lane.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised motorists to take extra precaution as thousands of passengers head out for the Holy Week break.
The agency earlier conducted surprise random testing at the Araneta bus terminal in Cubao to ensure that drivers of passenger buses are not under the influence of alcohol. – Rappler.com
