MANILA, Philippines – At least 5 people died after an unregistered boat carrying around 50 passengers capsized in Sulu, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Friday, April 3.

In a statement, the AFP said 14 passengers, including 7 children, survived and received medical treatment at the Integrated Provincial Health Office in Jolo, Sulu.

Others got assistance from village officials in Tapul Island.

There is an undetermined number of missing passengers.

The AFP said the boat capsized  near Pata and Tapul Islands early evening on Thursday, April 2.
