3 hurt in Zamboanga blast on Good Friday
A military officer privy to the report believes the incident might be 'drug related'

MANILA, Philippines – An explosion hit Zamboanga City in southern Philippines on the evening of Good Friday, April 3, wounding at least 3 civilians.

“Police authorities are conducting deep probe on the blast that occurred a few meters away from the Ayala police station around 8 tonight,” Zamboanga City Mayor Isabelle “Beng” Climaco said on her Facebook page.

The mayor said that the victims were rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center.

An initial military report showed that the explosion occurred in a Navarra pick-up parked in front a church in Barangay (village) Ayala near the police station.

The blast coincided with the Holy Week holidays, where Filipino Catholics flock to churches to commemorate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Eight out of 10 Filipinos are Catholics.

“EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) personnel are still conducting investigation as to what really exploded,” according to the military report.

A military officer privy to the report said that the incident may be “drug related.”

Mayor Climaco assured the public that authorities are in control of the situation. She urged Zamboanga residents to remain vigilant but calm.

Those with information on the bombing are encouraged to call the PNP hotlines at 062-117/ 9915959 – Rappler.com
