Isabela evacuees return home
176 families earlier evacuated return home after Chedeng makes a brief pass over the province

ILAGAN CITY, Philippines- Some families have returned to their houses in the coastal towns of Isabela after tropical storm Chedeng (Maysak) passed over the area, according to the local disaster risk reduction and management office.

In the coastal town of Dinapigue, where Chedeng made landfall at around 8:00 am on Sunday, April 5, some 176 families who were evacuated, have gone back their houses.

Late on Saturday, April 4, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reducation Management Office (PDRRMO) of Isabela evacuated the families from the 10 villages in 3 coastal towns in the province. The PDRRMO also distributed a total of 2467 reliefs packs.

In a bulletin issued on Sunday, the PDRRMO said all areas and roads are passable. No major damages and casualties were reported.

The cities of Cauayan and Ilagan only felt light to moderate rains overnight and on Sunday morning.

Isabela Governor Faustino Dy III said he is thankful of the “miracle” that happened in his province, referring to the swift weakening of then Super Typhoon Chedeng into a tropical depression.

He said Chedeng’s arrival was both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ for Isabela.

“It is bad, because who would want a storm in their province? And good, because our province experienced a dry spell over the past weeks and we badly need water,” Dy said in an interview.

Dy also thanked the residents of the province for cooperating to achieve their goal of zero casualty during disasters.

As of this posting, the governor has not yet lifted the no-sail and no-swimming policy. – Rappler.com
