Bomb found near Marine camp in Sulu
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Authorities discovered an improvised explosive device near the camp of the Philippine Marines in Jolo, Sulu, on Friday, April 10.
Initial reports said a concerned citizen informed the 2nd Marine Brigade about a suspicious baggage outside a videoke bar, just 50 meters away from the gate of Camp General Teodulfo Bautista in the village of Bus-Bus, at around 5:30 am Friday.
The Marines and Army explosive ordnance teams responded to the call and discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) inside the baggage, which was later defused.
The troops recovered a gas stove tank loaded with ammonium nitrate, 9 batteries, and cellular phones.
Based on the initial investigation, two unidentified men riding in a motorcycle were seen leaving the baggage at around 2 am.
Authorities are still determining the motive and identity of the group behind the foiled attempt. – with a report from Carmela Fonbuena/Rappler.com
