MANILA, Philippines – The state weather bureau has lifted the storm signals in 8 Luzon provinces before noon Saturday, July 21, even as tropical depression Ferdie maintained its strength.

In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa reported that Ferdie was last spotted 130 kilometers northwest of Laoag City.

It was still packing winds of 55 kilometers per hour near center, and moving west at 15 kph.

Only Abra, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur remain under Storm Signal No 1.

The storm signals in Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, Batanes Group of Islands, Kalinga, Apayao and Mt Province have been lifted.

Ferdie is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility Saturday night, Pagasa said.

The weather disturbance is bringing heavy rains measuring 10 to 25 millimeters per hour in affected areas.

Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas are warned against possible flashfloods and landslides due to the enhanced southwest monsoon. – Rappler.com
