Metro Cebu roads closed for Sinulog parade
Activities for the 450th founding anniversary of the Basilica del Santo Niño, including a Sinulog parade, will occupy some roads starting 3 pm, April 28

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Several roads in Metro Cebu will be closed in the afternoon until the evening of Tuesday, April 28, to give way to the activities in connection with the 450th founding anniversary of the Basilica del Santo Niño, including a Sinulog parade.

A solemn procession will be held at 3 pm, while a the sinulog parade will start at 7 pm.

Erwin Restauro, communications officer of the City Traffic Operations Management Office (Citom), said that most of the roads in the downtown area will be affected by the activities of the Catholic church. These include Colon Street, Osmeña Boulevard (downtown portion), D. Jakosalem, Mabini, and P. Burgos streets in Cebu City.

Although the entire stretch of the roads will not be closed – it will depend on the number of procession participants – most junctions in the area will be blocked upon the duration of the activity.

“It will be an on-and-off road closure,” Restauro said.

Restauro said that at 7 om, portions of Osmeña Boulevard – from Fuente toward the Basilica del Santo Niño – will also be affected by a “Sinulog at night” activity. Only several lanes will be used for the parade, however.

The Basilica is celebrating the 450th anniversary of the “rediscovery” of the image of the Holy Child and the Augustinian Order’s presence in the Philippines.

The Citom has advised motorists to avoid these areas because of expected traffic congestion. – Rappler.com
