UPDATES: Indonesia executions
MANILA, Philippines – The clock is ticking on Mary Jane Veloso's execution, set on Wednesday past midnight, April 29.
Rappler, its Indonesia bureau, and its civic engagement arm MovePH, provide up-to-date reports on the fate of the 30-year-old mother who was arrested in 2010 with 2.6 kilograms of heroin sewn into the lining of her suitcase.
The Filipina worker claims she went to Indonesia for a job as a maid but was duped into carrying drugs by an international drug syndicate.
On Tuesday afternoon, April 28, Rappler Indonesia reported President Joko Widodo called for an emergency meeting on Veloso. But after meeting with President Jokowi, the Indonesian Attorney General confirmed 9 would be executed including Veloso.
In these changing times, courage and clarity become even more important.
