TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – Residents of the typhoon-devastated region of Eastern Visayas will have the chance to apply for at least 6,786 openings that will be made available at a job fair here on Friday, May 1. 

Elias Cayanong, regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment, said the job fair will be held in Tacloban and Ormoc cities with the theme “Disenteng Trabaho at Kabuhayan, Alay Natin sa Bayan” (Decent Jobs and Livelihood, Our Gift to the People).

In Tacloban, the event will be held at the Tacloban Convention Center, with 70 local employers participating to look for applicants for 1,780 jobs. For those interested to work abroad, 12 recruitment agencies will be offering 3,914 job orders.

In Ormoc City, 12 establishments offering 402 jobs locally, and 6 agencies with 1,092 job orders from abroad will be participating.

DOLE Assistant Regional Director Exequiel Ronie Guzman said that, as of 2014, the agency had released P106.26 million under the Yolanda Recovery and Rehabilitation Plan to 13,665 beneficiaries.

During the Labor Day event on Friday, DOLE will release P37.51 million in livelihood grants. TESDA will conduct free demonstration on hair cutting, massage therapy, and manicure and pedicure.
