Cebu provincial board seeks probe into slow Internet
Majority Floor Leader Arleigh Sitoy refutes the claim of telecommunication companies that complaints about slow Internet are isolated

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Cebu provincial board has asked the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to look into numerous complaints on slow Internet connection around the province.

“It is unfortunate that many Cebuanos complain about the significantly slow speed that frustrates many users after being promised of fast Internet connections and their company’s nationwide coverage,” said Provincial Board Member Arleigh Sitoy, whose resolution was approved during the session on Monday, May 4.

Sitoy said that the usual answer of the telecommunication companies is that these are isolated complaints.

“It is highly noticeable that complaints originate from the different areas of the province and thus cannot be construed as isolated cases,” said Sitoy, majority floor leader of the provincial board.

Slow Internet was also evident during the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight on Sunday, May 3.

Sitoy has asked the NTC to conduct an investigation into the telecoms to “enlighten the public about the real status of our internet connections and services.”

The board member said that it is also ironic that the telecoms have been promoting Internet services despite their inability to provide fast connections.

The justice department has warned telcos that penalties await data throttlersJustice Secretary Leila de Lima said that practice of telecommunication companies of imposing a fair usage policy on unlimited Internet services can be considered misleading or an otherwise unfair business practice. – Rappler.com
