MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – Ten soldiers and 8 alleged Abu Sayyaf members were killed in a clash in Basilan Thursday, July 26, the military said. A total of 12 troops were wounded.

The clash between Army troops and about 50 alleged ASG members began at 7.30 a.m. Thursday in Barangay Upper Cabengbeng, Sumisip town in Basilan.

The bodies of the slain soldiers had been airlifted to Zamboanga City, Yogyog said.

This is the third fatal clash in Basilan this year.
