Schools in Cebu town catch fire
The Dumanjug Central School and the Dumanjug National High School still hold classes after a few classrooms were damaged

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Two of the biggest public schools in Dumanjug town, Cebu province, caught fire at around 5 am on Tuesday, June 2.

At the Dumanjug Central School, where the blaze was believed to have originated from the curtains, 4 classrooms were damaged.

In a separate fire at the nearby Dumanjug National High School, two rooms were damaged after books caught fire.

Police Officer 1 Goeffrey Miro said the Dumanjug police is assisting fire station investigators. Among other things, they are looking into possible arson.

The fire station in Dumanjug could not be reached for comment. It does not have its own telephone, and only shares the line of the police station.

When sought for comment, Cebu provincial schools superintendent Arden Monisit said in a text message that he was in a management committee meeting.

Miro said nearby residents helped the responding fire fighters in immediately putting out the fire.

The schools still held classes Tuesday. – Rappler.com
