MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – Police arrested a man who broke into the house of Senator Jinggoy Estrada on Saturday morning, June 6.

In a phone interview with Rappler, police officer Clemente Arcilla of Quezon City Police District Station 12 said the suspect was arrested around 4:45 am after the station received a call from the security personnel of Estrada’s home in Corinthian Hills, Quezon City.

Police Senior Inspector Maricar Taqueban, chief of QCPD’s public information office, told Rappler in a text message that the victim was Estrada’s wife, Presentacion Ejercito.

The suspect, 34-year-old Eric Dalagan, searched for valuables in Ejercito’s office and in the room of their daughter, Jill Ejercito.

“He even ate food at the balcony, which he took from the refrigerator [in] the kitchen, and vandalized the house of Mrs Ejercito by defecating [on] the balcony, where he also left several belongings of the Ejercitos,” a detailed report from QCPD Station 12 read.

The suspect jumped off from the balcony and tried to evade arrest but the security personnel and “other concerned individuals” caught up with him.

The police recovered an undetermined amount of cash and other valuables belonging to Ejercito

An official complaint against the suspect has yet to be filed with the police.

Senator Estrada is presently detained at Camp Crame over plunder and graft charges relating to the alleged misuse of his Priority Development Assistance Fund or pork barrel. He was allowed by the Sandiganbayan to attend his son’s high school graduation on Tuesday, March 17, after the anti-graft court granted his motion for a furlough on Monday, March 16.

Estrada was ordered arrested in June 2014 for allegedly plundering millions of pesos in taxpayers’ money. – with reports from Jee Geronimo/Rappler.com
